A blast from the past ...

On one of my regular 4 mile walks, I walk through a new housing estate, (used to be fields) and the houses are unusual to say the least.  They have been painted pastel colours, pink, blue, pale green, cream etc.,  I can't help recalling this song everytime I see them.  It looks like Toytown to me.

I remember it when it first came out and it didn't register too much with me then, but now I am older I find it very profound and quite sad.

    2. All well thanks and still reading blogs :) It started to feel a little like an obligation and an extra stress on the pile so I stepped away from it...that's not to say that I might not go back to it if & when the mood takes me :)

    3. I know what you mean, I've had a few 'breaks' as well, mainly because I felt no one was reading at the time and I was talking to myself !
I recently had a 'revamp' when I wrote the book and have stuck to it reasonably regularly since then.
take care and look forward to reading your blog again.

    1. This was a massive hit here in UK back in the day. It brings back lots of memories for me.

  3. I love Pete Seeger, but I have never heard this song before. He lived to be an old man and just died in the last year or two. You could never put him in a box, he was one of a kind.

    1. I think this song was way before its time. Very clever lyrics.

  4. I once drove through an area with boxes, ticky tacky boxes. I thought it was a new subdivision, but it was much older. Not one tree and not many flowers or shrubs made me sad for the people living in these homes.

    1. Hello PP, I live in a 'box' right now, but not a pink one, or a blue one, or ....... etc., it's OK, but that's all. I feel trapped and 'part of the system' here. After living in the countryside I long for that life again, and to feel 'free'.
      Thanks for stopping by.

  5. I love this song, it's the theme song for a tv series. I can't for the life of me think of the name though. Would love to see a photo of the houses, next time you are passing.

  6. I'm sure Val Doonican recorded it first? I remember it in the sixties. Like you it has more ranking today then way back then.
